Quo Vadis

Tuesday 07-14-2015 – Friday 07-17-2015

All Day

We are very excited to announce our first annual Quo Vadis Camp for high-school aged guys!

What is Quo Vadis?

Quo Vadis is a Latin phrase which translated means “Where are you going?” The goal of the Quo Vadis Camp is to bring high school aged men together who desire to grow in faithful discipleship and personal holiness to be better able to discover their own vocation invitation from our Lord, whatever that might be. This is accomplished through a 4 day experience that is highly energetic, fun, active, prayerful, and meant to build fellowship among the participants.

While it is the first year for this experience in the Diocese of Richmond, many other Dioceses across the United States have incorporated a version of this retreat for their high school aged young men.

Does this mean that the high school guys I send to participate will become priests?

Not necessarily. The Quo Vadis experience is meant for high school guys who are seeking a greater understanding of who God has created them to be and how He is calling them to serve His Church as they continue through their high school and young adult years. The main focus on the week is a chance to be around a group of other young guys who are serious about their faith. The week draws attention to the Universal Call to Holiness and the Call of Discipleship and how those themes are played out for a young man in high school.

Who should attend the Quo Vadis Camp?

Quo Vadis is open to all rising 10th through 12th graders for the 2015 – 2016 academic year. Due to the nature of the camp experience, we cannot accept any individual who is younger than a rising 10th grader. In addition, we cannot accept any recently graduated 12th graders. For this population, there are other young adult discernment experiences that are available during the year.

Most importantly, pastors and young ministry leaders should identify young men who are well-rounded and active in the life of the parish to participate in this experience. We do not typically recommend that you do a “mass marketing” campaign for this camp, rather participants should be invited through one-on-one invitations. While some of the young men you may invite may have considered the priesthood in the past, it is not a requirement that they have considered or talked about the priesthood prior to coming.

Where and when is the Quo Vadis Camps?

The Quo Vadis Camps will be held on Tuesday, July 14 through Friday, July 17, 2015 on the campus of the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia.

All youth will be housed in dorms at the University of Richmond.

Who leads the Quo Vadis Camp experience?

The Quo Vadis Camp is a joint effort by the Office for Evangelization and Office of Vocations. Father Mike Boehling, the Vicar for Vocations, will be leading the camp along with many of our seminarians and some of our priests from across the Diocese. In addition, several youth ministers will be assisting throughout the week.

Due to the nature of the camp experience, parishes are not required to send a chaperone with the youth they send to the camp. However, it is highly encouraged that a male adult (either the youth minister or volunteer) participate in the week along with their youth. This will help continue the work of Quo Vadis back in the parish after the camp experience.

What is the registration fee?

The Diocese is able to absorb most of the cost for this experience. The cost for youth participants is $75. There is no charge to adult chaperones. As with all of our events, cost should never be a barrier to participation so if any of your youth need scholarships, please contact us as soon as possible.

What does this registration fee cover?

The registration fee will cover lodging and food Tuesday through Friday on the University of Richmond campus. In addition, each participant will receive a t-shirt.

What is the lodging situation?

Each dorm room at the University of Richmond will contain 1 or 2 twin-size beds. Participants will need to bring their own sheets, towels, and personal items. A packing list will be provided to all participants in advance of the week.

How do I get to Richmond?

Transportation is the responsibility of each parish to coordinate. The Office for Evangelization can assist parishes who wish to carpool by connecting nearby parishes together.

What are the requirements for adult chaperones?

If an adult chaperone is coming from your parish, that adult chaperone must be in compliance with the Diocesan Safe Environment Policies, which includes completing the Select One Screening (every 5 years) as well as VIRTUS training (once).

How do I register and what are the registration deadlines?

All youth must register through their parish youth coordinator OR Catholic school coordinator in the following way:

Medical Form: Print out and distribute the medical form. DO NOT SEND THESE TO THE OFFICE FOR EVANGELIZATION.
Register Participants via the Online Registration System: If you are a youth coordinator, contact the Office for Evangelization via email or phone (804-622-5159) to get your username and password for the online registration system.

Please note: Parishes are responsible for the registration fee. An invoice will be sent to each parish after the event for any unpaid fees.

Registration will close on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 3:00 pm.
