St. Bridget parish has a longstanding and well-regarded altar server ministry.
Applications are now open for the annual training of our new cohort of altar servers. Parishioners in the fifth grade and older who are reverent and responsible are invited to apply.
Those familiar with our altar server ministry will notice a change in our altar server recruitment and training. Our new altar servers will be trained and serve initially in the role of Crucifer. The Crucifer is the altar server who leads the procession with the processional crucifix. This new model for altar server training will provide our altar servers with an opportunity to become proficient in this one role while learning and observing their more experienced peers. Altar servers will be invited to train in the more advanced positions as they become experienced and demonstrate they are qualified.
Our new altar servers will complete a three-hour training program which we have scheduled on three dates (see below). Servers are only required to attend one session. Altar servers are required to learn and master important terminology. Altar serving is a ministry for the entire family and altar servers and families commit to attending Mass regularly and serve Mass once a month for weekend Mass. More experienced servers will have the opportunity to serve at daily Mass (about once monthly for SBS students) and other special occasions such as solemnities (Holy Days), funerals, and weddings. There is flexibility to schedule during your family's preferred Mass times and to coordinate with other ministry obligations.
Parents are asked to talk with their children to consider this call to be a part of the altar server ministry. This ministry can be foundational to your children's faith formation and is a ministry that influences and can be shared with the entire family.
Questions can be directed to Brooke Bell (brkbll@gmail.com). Interested servers can complete an application by January 5th via this online form.
