Summer 2018 - New Orleans- Crescent Choral Festival

About the Choir

YVC in Italy     Founded in 2014, Young Voices of the Carolinas provides exceptional choral music education to children regardless of race, creed or socio-economic station.  The choir serves children between the ages of 8 – 18 and always strives for artistic excellence.

Sharing their music with the Charlotte community as well as touring regionally, nationally and internationally, enables the students to increase their knowledge of the world around them.  Sharing their talents for audiences instills a sense of pride by making the world a better place while creating something of beauty and value Since the summer of 2015 the students have participated in the MidAmerica Treble Choir Festival conducted by Ms. Holland at Carnegie Hall,  performed throughout Chattanooga, TN and with the Crescent City Choral Festival held in New Orleans, and enjoyed a performance tour to Italy where they sang at St. Peter’s in the Vatican City.

This coming June YVOTC will perform at Duke Chapel on the Duke University Campus and then head farther north to the nation’s capital performing for evensong at the incredible National Cathedral.

About the Founder

sandy holland     Sandy R. Holland founded the Young Voices of the Carolinasin 2014 after a 23 year tenure as the Artistic Director of the Charlotte Children’s Choir. She has taught music from pre-school through college, but her favorite by far is making music with young choirs, stating,“There is something about the purity of a child’s voice that touches the human soul.”

The vision of the Young Voices of the Carolinas, “Helping young singers find their voice.” Speaks to her  belief that singing in a choir helps to not only musically and vocally educate young people, but singing helps to build students confidence and self-esteem while creating something beautiful.

In addition to conducting three ensembles of YVOTC, Sandy is the Choral Music Specialist at Metrolina  Regional Scholars Academy, teaching students from kindergarten to eighth grade. Sandy attended Pfeiffer College and Indiana University.  A member of NC Music Educators Association, National Federation of Music Educators, Chorus America and the American Choral Director’s Association, Sandy is a Past President of the North Carolina Chapter.

Sandy is a sought-after guest conductor/lecturer on children’s and women’s choirs. She has directed honor choirs in fourteen states, including a Treble Choir Festival at Carnegie Hall with members from YVOTC (June 2017), and the Treble Honors Choir for the Southern Division of the American Choral Directors Association. (Louisville, KY, February 2018). In her free time, Ms. Holland enjoys reading, crafting, tending to her cats Zoey and Lucy, and trips to Topsail Island.Preview
